An RV can qualify as a second home for the purpose of deducting the interest on the loan from your taxes. You can also deduct property taxes that apply to the RV. You cannot deduct the purchase price, fuel, operating costs, maintenance or repair expenses or fees for camping. Confirm your specific details with your tax advisor, but in general, these conditions must be met for the RV to qualify as a second home:
- The RV must have sleeping, kitchen and toilet facilities.
- You must live in the RV for at least 14 days each year.
- You cannot claim another second home or RV.
- The RV must be used as security for the loan.
